The Jasper Place Bowl is a replacement of a 1960’s era grandstand and changeroom facility that was at the end of its lifespan. The new facility incorporates an innovative design with sustainable building practices and a 2,000 seat bleacher system. Construction started with the demolition of the existing facility, which included asbestos abatement of the grandstand before demolition. As the building is adjacent to two large high schools and a recreation complex, there was a great deal of coordination done to ensure that the safety of the public was maintained at all times. While the facility was closed for the duration of construction the adjacent track and field remained open and active. The building is constructed to LEED Silver standards and incorporates several sustainable features including a high performance envelope system as well as recycled content in many of the building materials.
